One of the conditions Boyana suffers from is hydrocephalus, for which a shunt was placed between the two hemispheres of her brain. This shunt diverts excess cerebrospinal fluid into her abdominal cavity, where it can be naturally absorbed by the body. By draining the fluid elsewhere in the body, pressure on the brain is relieved. Due to a blockage of the shunt valve, Boyana was urgently admitted to Pirogov for surgical removal, revision, and re-implantation of the shunt. Hello, kind people! I am reaching out to you for help, not for myself, but for my wonderful daughter Boyana! For 20 years, she has lived as fully as her condition allows. Boyana suffers from spina bifida, hydrocephalus, neurogenic bladder, and paraparesis of the lower limbs. So far, she has undergone more than 23 surgeries, but the fight is worth it – she is a beautiful young woman with a great desire for a normal life. She already has a driver’s license, is pursuing higher education, and dreams of working. To achieve this dream, Boyana needs one more, hopefully final, surgery in France – reconstruction of the bladder and urinary tract. Due to her condition, she uses catheters to urinate. The previous surgery was unsuccessful, causing leakage both externally and internally, which poses serious health risks. After the operation, Boyana will spend eight weeks with two catheters, and recovery will be long and challenging. She also requires specialized catheters costing 1,800 BGN, needed monthly. For every trip to France for surgery, we purchase large quantities of these catheters because they are not available in Bulgaria, and without them, Boyana cannot survive, as they effectively replace her urinary system. The total cost for the surgery and all additional expenses is 100,000 BGN, most of which has already been raised, but we still have costs for the hospital, doctor’s fees, transportation, additional medical care, and our three-month stay in France.
