My name is Mihaela, I am 36 years old and I am the mother of 6-year-old Dayana – my strength and my greatest responsibility. Dayana has a severe form of autism. Her world is different. There are no words in it, but there is a deep need for love, presence and care. I am the person who understands her signals, who calms her when the world becomes too loud for her. I am her bridge to the world.

I am raising her alone. Until recently, I was fighting only for her development. But in March I received a diagnosis that changed our lives completely – stage III breast cancer. I am facing a very difficult battle. I am not afraid of pain or hospitals.

I am afraid of only one thing: Who will understand Dayana if I am gone? Who will calm her when she is scared? Who will read her signals when she cannot ask for help? I am fighting cancer with every part of my strength – not only to survive, but so I don’t leave her alone in the silence of her autism. In order for Dayana to receive the therapies she needs and attend a specialized kindergarten, we had to leave our home and move to a rented place in Varna. This is her only chance to receive the daily specialized care she needs. In the coming months, I will be in the hospital.

My mother is the only person I can rely on. She stopped working to stay with us 24 hours a day and take care of both of us. As a result, we lost her income while our expenses continue to grow – rent, therapies, treatment and daily living needs. At the moment, we rely only on Dayana’s support allowance and my salary as her assistant. We do not know how long my treatment will last.

We don’t know how we will manage. We only know that we must survive. We need support for the next year – for treatment, rent, Dayana’s therapies and the most essential living expenses. Please, give us a helping hand. Every donation and every share is a chance for me to stay with my daughter.

Please help me not leave Dayana alone.
