Hello, friends, acquaintances, and kind-hearted strangers. My name is Stanimir Dobrev, I am 29 years old, and I am reaching out to you for help! As a child, I loved sports and dreamed of becoming a football player. But life decided to test me when I was only 14 years old. On May 6, 2009, I suffered a severe car accident, which caused a spinal injury and left me paralyzed from the waist down. Although I have been confined to a wheelchair for 14 years, I have never given up—not even for a moment. I have never abandoned my dream of walking again and living a normal life. Since then, I have committed to daily training and intensive rehabilitation, along with patience, mental strength, and a complete lifestyle change. Every day, I face the challenges that my condition brings. Thanks to medical advancements, I now have the opportunity to recover through an innovative experimental surgical procedure in a neurosurgery clinic in Turkey. Unfortunately, this procedure is not yet available in Bulgaria. I learned about Prof. Toktas, who has conducted research in this field. I approached him with great hope. He reviewed all my scans and recommended experimental treatment—nerve transfer around the damaged part of my spinal cord. He explained that in cases like mine, there is nothing else to try and that success cannot be guaranteed. But you must understand—I have to try. After the surgery, if the nerves successfully reconnect, results may appear in six months, or it may take a year, as nerve growth is very slow and requires time. The cost of this operation is €15,800. Unfortunately, my family cannot afford this treatment, so I am forced to ask for your help and rely on the kindness of others. With the help of family and friends, we have organized charity campaigns multiple times but have only managed to raise half the amount. Additional funds will be needed for unforeseen medical costs, as well as transportation and accommodation for my accompanying person. I still need around BGN 16,000 to cover the full cost.
