News about Teodor: Dear donors, Today we received important news about little Teodor. His family has been approved by the National Health Insurance Fund to cover the upcoming complex surgery in Vienna. This is a huge step forward and brings hope for Teo’s successful recovery. The surgery will remove improperly placed implants from previous operations, which caused his hip joints to stick out and brought him terrible pain. At the request of the family, Teodor’s campaign remains open. After the surgery, he will need long and specialized rehabilitation, which is very expensive and most likely will not be covered by the health insurance fund. We thank everyone who supports Teodor on his path to health. My name is Zina, and I am Teodor’s mother! I want to thank all the kind people who help us, so that our wonderful little boy can attend rehabilitation every month. Thanks to your generosity, Teo has been attending the rehabilitation center for the fifth month without interruption! I am writing to inform you that there is a change in Teo’s treatment. Due to complications after surgical interventions, we had to adjust the treatment plans for our child. We are going through difficulties with hope that we will provide a more normal life for our boy, that the sun will shine for him, but unfortunately – we still have a long way to go. In 2024, we were given hope in Turkey that Teo would be able to walk. We were very happy and could not wait to help our boy! Due to dislocations of both hip joints, surgery was required to reposition them. We first operated on one hip and the undescended testes, then on the other hip, and then again on the first hip because the immobilizing devices were not in place! Over time, my boy started crying, hitting his legs, and the implant visibly appeared to be misplaced. He screamed in pain; I gave him pain medication, he woke up and started crying again. We suspected that something was wrong with our child and sought several consultations with orthopedic doctors in different countries (France, Belgium, Germany, Vienna) to find the cause of his discomfort, inability to sleep, lack of appetite, and self-injury. We heard a lot: “You should not have operated, your child is in a severe condition, he will not walk…” These words tore my heart apart and did not give me peace… I cannot leave my child, even if I have to care for him until my last breath, I will stay by his side! Hope, not for improvement, but for a life without pain for Teo came from two specialized hospitals for children with disabilities in Belgium and Vienna. We chose the hospital in Vienna with orthopedic Dr. Alexander Krebs (a prominent name in pediatric orthopedics). He stated that an urgent operation is required to remove the old implants, reposition the hip joints, and stop the child’s pain! I ask you, as a mother, to support our child. I know Teo has many serious diagnoses, and many people may ask – why operate if he will not walk? To them, I answer – because I want my Teodor not to be in pain, not to scream from pain, not to harm himself, and to start smiling again! That is what I want as a mother! The cost of the surgery is €26,523.43, which is unaffordable for our family. Meanwhile, Teo must continue rehabilitation to prevent deterioration. Please support us! We cannot manage this alone. He is six years old and was diagnosed shortly after birth with internal hydrocephalus, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy. After unsuccessful treatments in Bulgaria, the family sought help in France, but the treatment there was not successful. Then they turned to clinics in Turkey, where Teodor was also diagnosed with Emanuel syndrome. Light came from a hospital in Istanbul, where specialists gave hope that Teodor could live a normal life and walk.
