My name is Nikolina, and I am the mother of a wonderful eight-year-old boy – Georgi. Until very recently, he was a lively and smiling child who loved to play outside, run, and climb. Everything changed a few months ago when we noticed the first signs – difficulty climbing stairs, complaints of leg pain. We began searching for the cause, consulted various specialists, and finally, after a genetic test, we received the devastating diagnosis: Duchenne progressive muscular dystrophy. This is a rare, severe, and incurable disease that slowly takes away mobility, and eventually, life itself. I don’t know exactly how one survives such news, but I know one thing – I will fight to the very end for my child! Our hope now lies in an offer from a Turkish hospital that provides stem cell therapy, which can significantly slow down the progression of the disease and preserve Georgi’s ability to move for longer.
